Things To Do in Burbank, IL
Burbank is a city in Cook County, Illinois, that borders the southwest edge of Chicago. The Chicago city limit is in common with Burbank’s eastern city limit, sharing a boundary with Oak Lawn to its east, Bridgeview to its west, and Bedford Park to its north. It is less than two miles south of Chicago Midway International Airport.
In 1850, the area that would become the city of Burbank was largely uninhabited and agrarian, but it became part of Lyons Township. For a hundred years, the area remained undeveloped, even though several large plans to develop it were created but never came to pass.
By the 1920s, it had become an attractive site for real-estate developers, but ongoing drainage problems and terrible water and sewage systems kept Burbank still unbuilt and empty until the 1950s. It became part of Stickney Township in 1952 but was finally incorporated into a city in 1970 to resist annexation by the City of Chicago.
Chuck’s Southern Comforts Cafe is the best place for pulled pork and other slow-cooked meats. The Haunted Trails Family Entertainment Center has bumper cars and a lot of other fun, and it is one of those centers where you can spend the entire day.
